Filter mat blanks are suitable for the filtration of dirt (dust and other particles) and are used in all types of ventilation systems.

In switchgear or control cabinets, for example, air filter mats are used in control cabinet fans (filter fans) depending on the application and ambient conditions.

Here, air filter mats ensure that only cool and clean air can enter the switchgear cabinet and, at the same time, the IP protection class (protection against dust and water) is maintained in conjunction with commercially available filter fans and outlet filters with respect to the switchgear cabinet. The goal should be that the switchgear can operate at a constant "low" temperature, so that the highest possible availability can be achieved.

An increase in the operating temperature as well as permanent temperature fluctuations stress the electrotechnical components and shorten the service life.

In the case of air filter mats specifically for use in switchgear / control cabinets, a distinction is usually made between 2 types:

        Air filter mats made of polyolefin (can be used several times)
        Air filter mats made of polyester (can be used once)

The polyolefin air filter mats are thermally bonded high-performance nonwovens made of synthetic-organic, break-resistant fibres.

The structure of the air filter mats is progressive, that means the density of the fibre layers increases towards the clean air side.

The result is an optimum of defined filter performance and dust holding capacity with a simultaneously low pressure difference. Another feature of polyolefin air filter mats is the advantage of regenerability, because the air filter mats can be used several times by vacuuming, beating and washing.

The polyester air filter mats enable economical use in the filtration of large air volumes. Similar to polyolefin filter mats, they are characterised by a high dust holding capacity at a low pressure difference. However, the medium can only be regenerated to a limited extent - which is why polyester air filter mats are generally cheaper to purchase than polyolefin air filter mats.
